We stayed in Catalina State Park for 3 days. We rolled in right as a major winter snow storm was coming through. Somehow, even though Tucson got plenty of snow, we never got any that stuck to the ground here – lots of rain and sleet and beautiful snow on the mountain tops, but we never had to deal with the mess here at the RV.
We loved Catalina. The sites here are massive. We stayed in Campground B (#33) and there was space for at least one more RV in between us and our nearest neighbors (some campgrounds would consider it space for 2 more, but that’s something else entirely). There was also a ton of “backyard” space behind our rig as well – lots of area for the kids to run around and be kids! The sites here only have electric and water, so you have to be prepared for that, but there are 2 dump stations pretty conveniently located. It’s a state park, so there’s no wifi, but cell service was pretty decent. I got between 3-4 bars of 5G on AT&T and maintained 4 bars on the Verizon hotspot. It was perfect to be able to knock some work and school out when we needed to!
This park has a very nice trail system. With the nasty weather, we couldn’t get out and do as many of the trails as we wanted, but what we were able to do was fabulous. The juxtaposition of the saguaros against the snow-tipped mountains was just enough to make my heart a little giddy. Dogs were allowed on the trails, too, so our old boys got to have the time of their lives trotting along the trails.
I’ve only been to a few of the Arizona State Parks, but this definitely makes me want to see more.
