We finally made it into California heading south. The new truck was towing like a dream and something about making it into California made it feel like we were actually making progress. Railroad Park RV Resort in Dunsmuir, CA was a delightful place to stay. Not only is it an RV park, but they also have converted old railcars into cabin accommodations. The RV park is tucked away in the trees and even though there are a fair amount of RV spaces, none of them feel right on top of each other.
We had a couple of things we needed to accomplish while we were here – first and foremost, we needed to meet with a mobile notary to sign all the closing documents for our house back in Indiana. (Side note: I had no idea that there were such things as mobile notaries. It was pretty rad to sign all of our closing documents in the middle of the forest in Northern California)
Next item on the agenda: hiking with the kids. We were lucky that this park had some old remnants of roads that we could just take off on straight from our campsite. They certainly weren’t passable (even by 4-wheeling standards) so they were perfect for hiking. The views were gorgeous and the kids were completely enamored with the massive pinecones.
The park also has The Dining Car Restaurant onsite. It was a super easy walk from our site and it was a nice break to be able to have someone else make dinner for us and bring it back to the RV.
We spent Halloween here, but we conveniently just decided to skip all of it. With our world being so different and COVID making everything complicated, we thought it might be best to simply not mention it to the kids. There were a few folks dressed up around the campground, but we just kept on with our usual things. Halloween has never been huge for us. It’s pretty unfair for Owen since he has Celiac so he can’t have most of the treats anyhow so we downplay it a lot. I think that worked well in our favor this year.
We also made the non-committal decision that we would keep our eyes open for a potential new rig. With the industry so overwhelmed (and overpriced as a result), we weren’t sure if we would be able to find anything, but we had at least settled on the floorpan and manufacturer that we would be willing to consider. Now it was just a matter of watching to see what would happen.
