The whole premise of the Harvest Hosts program is that you typically only stay one night at each host before moving on. These aren’t places where you settle in for the long haul, but they are absolutely ideal for stopovers along the route. This is how we found Papa Moon Vineyards. We were enroute to Scott’s Bluff National Monument and we wanted a quick (close) stopover before going there in the morning. This night also happened be our 9th wedding anniversary, so I really wanted to find a special Harvest Host spot instead of just going to a campground.
Papa Moon’s did not disappoint. There was plenty of room for us to tuck away under the trees and feel completely alone. There was actually another RV there for the evening, but they were already parked on the other side of the pond and we barely noticed them. We walked back up the path and were able to get a wine tasting flight to sit outside and enjoy. Papa Moon doesn’t just have yummy wines, they also do some pretty fabulous ciders. Added bonus of this place: the owners had young girls about the age of our kids and they all instantly made friends and ran off to play hide and seek and jump around on the playground.
Conversation with the owners was delightful; our kids were able to burn off some energy and the views really couldn’t be beat.
This place was an all-around winner.
(Side note: Leaving Papa Moon in the morning was the first time I finally drove hauling our behemoth of a RV. Up until this point, Brian had done all of the driving. I think it was a combination of his need to feel super-comfortable with how all the systems were working together and my apprehension at tackling it. Don’t worry, I drove for hours the day after and did just fine. I think it’s going to open up a whole new world for Brian to actually be able to get work done while we travel!)
