After an emotionally taxing day dealing with the damage to the RV, we needed a chance to unwind. We had considered making some changes to reservations and going to the next campground earlier, but at the end of the day, we decided that moving things around wasn’t going to do anything but add more to our plate. So, we stuck with our original plan and pushed forward to our Harvest Host for the night.
This happens to be a very popular Harvest Host. When we rolled in (rather later than we had intended due to our aforementioned delays), their large parking lot was full of RVers already set up for the night. Brian went to check in and find out where we should go. Turns out, the late arrival actually worked in our favor, because instead of being jammed in parking lot formation with the other RVs, we were given a spot that gave us an amazing view of the farm and hills in the distance. It was honestly as though there was no one else there.
I know we’ve mentioned the before, but we LOVE our Harvest host membership. Staying at wineries along the way is such a decadent treat that we never expected when we were thinking about this journey. Once we got the rig all set up, I went in for a wine tasting and to make some selections while Brian watched the kids as they played outside. Not only was there a great wine bar and gift shop with a fully stocked gourmet deli, but there was also a petting zoo area outside and a ton of farm land. I picked up a few bottles of wine and the smoked brie (because, hello? Smoked. Brie.) and went back to the rig to unwind. A slight PNW drizzle started outside, but it didn’t deter the kids. They grabbed raincoats and rainboots and continued running around outside with the other kids they had found, chasing the geese and the ducks and having a complete blast.
The rain was actually a blessing because we were able to make sure that the patch-job Brian had done on the rig truly was water tight. When it was all said and done, we ended this nasty day with a beautiful bottle of wine and watching an amazing sunset. And when the sun came up the next morning, despite it all, we were still in this beautiful place having a beautiful adventure and building memories that will last us forever. We would have to deal with the damage, of course, but sitting at this winery/cheese factory in Tillamook, Oregon, everything felt perfect.
