Saguaro National Park

The kids were so excited to go to Saguaro National Park. Even just seeing their first iconic Saguaro while we were driving into Arizona was mind-blowing for them. There’s just something special about seeing forests full of these beautiful cacti.

Of course, the kids did feel like experts on cacti in general after having spent a day at Organ Pipe National Monument, so coming here was right up their alley.

I hadn’t realized that, although a National Monument since 1933, this area wasn’t elevated to National Park status until 1994. In my mind, this had always been a National Park.

We had so much fun exploring the area. The kids especially enjoyed hiking up Signal Hill to see the petroglyphs and check out the killer views. I love these days when we can wrap in a ecology, biology and history lesson all into one beautifully memorable experience.

Also, we love Saguaros.
