Confession Time:
In case you haven’t noticed, we aren’t exactly wicked knowledgeable about this full-time RV lifestyle. So, we thought we were being pretty clever when we found the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land outside of Quartzsite, AZ. It looked like a decent place to spend an evening. We literally had no idea that Quartzsite is this huge RV Mecca (uncovered after later research)
Once you get a little bit out of town, there is open land as far as you can see and apparently the majority of it is BLM and open to camp anywhere. There are RVs just scattered about like salt on the landscape. It’s crazy.
We went far enough out to where we couldn’t see anyone else, had the perfect views and then set up our home-base for the night. The kids ran around like crazy an in general, had a great time. Being that far out, the night sky was breathtaking and just perfect for stars. We had the kids stay up late for some good old fashioned star gazing and light painting. (Highly recommend the Night Sky App for star identification, even if you do know your way around the constellations.)
I can totally see why folks come back here again and again. This is now the kids’ pinnacle of what boondocking is meant to be and I don’t blame them.
