Since we had planned on being in Oregon almost 2 weeks, we decided to split the stay between a couple of different places. Â Honestly, could a trip to the Pacific Northwest be complete without a stay on the coast? So, after 4 days in Champoeg, we packed up our things and headed north to Fort Stevens State Park. Lucky for us, our friends rented an AirBnB close to Fort Stevens for a long weekend, so we were able to continue our shenanigans with them.
Fort Stevens is a really beautiful park, though unless you know it well, it’s a little challenging to make “ideal” reservations online. Our site was nice, tucked away into the forest, but it was *barely* big enough for us. Cell phone reception was next to none in most areas of the park, but it was kind of nice to be out of reach for a bit.
The kids al had a blast exploring the woods around our site and we got a ton of use out of the playground. We took a full day to explore the fort, chasing the kids up and down the ladders and through the maze of hallways and stairs. We spent another day down at beach and saw what was left of the shipwreck. Even though it was cold enough for coats and hats, the kids couldn’t help themselves but to go out in the water.
We even had the added bonus of a dear friend from Seattle coming down to spend a few days with us!
After visiting both sets of grandparents at the beginning of the trip, our time with friends in Oregon was the next major milestone. We got everything we wanted out of it and then some. Honestly, the only problem (and it was a big one) was saying goodbye to all of them.
